  • Therapy doesn’t always look like “therapy” - sometimes our OT sessions include impromptu fashion parades 🤪

Our long term goal is to be able to tie our 👟 We’re starting with making fun things out of Wikki Stix before we move onto some of the more specific movements to learn tying shoelaces 💭 and who said we couldn’t have some fun along the way!
  • Meltdowns and tantrums often get lumped into the same category… but they’re actually *very* different experiences.

A tantrum is usually about wanting something.
A meltdown is about the nervous system becoming overwhelmed.

Sometimes what looks like “bad behaviour” is actually a brain saying I can’t cope right now.

When we understand the difference, our response changes too.
Less punishment, more support, more regulation 💚
  • One of my favourite therapy games right now is Perspective Detectives 🕵️

We read a clue card and try to figure out all the different things that might be going on.

There’s no single “correct” answer. Just lots of possibilities.

Sometimes putting on a detective hat or pretending to be a different character makes it easier to see things from another angle 🔎
  • We love jumbo tweezers!! They work on so many skills, like…

💪🏻 hand strength
🤲🏻 bilateral coordination
🤔 motor planning
💡 attention and concentration
👀 visual perception
⏰ timing

The stressful days, the overwhelming seasons, the moments where we genuinely didn’t know how we were going to cope.

But here you are. Still going. Still trying. Still showing up 🧡
  • I don’t ✨ hate✨ Zones of Regulation, I just don’t love how it’s often taught 😅

When kids learn that green = good and red = bad, we accidentally teach them that some emotions aren’t okay.

Anger isn’t wrong.
Excitement isn’t bad.
High energy isn’t a negative thing.

Regulation isn’t about being calm all the time 🌿
It’s about having the right level of energy for what you’re doing ⚽📚

Biiiig big nostalgia with our Pamela Allen books 🐮🐄 know any others? 🤔

Being a therapist means seeing people on some of their hardest days 🌻

Something I wish more clients knew is that therapy isn’t about having the perfect answers or showing up with everything figured out.

Some days simply arriving is the biggest step. Some days the goal is just getting through the session. And that’s okay.

Therapy is a space where we can go at your pace, change direction when something doesn’t fit, and figure things out together 😌

I’ve changed my mind about a lot of things in OT.

Less focus on compliance.
More focus on nervous systems.
Less “sit still”.
More “what does your body need?”.

Growth in this field means listening, unlearning, and doing better when we know better 🌿💭
